Notice of E 1st Street repair and closure

On October 2, Wakeview Construction, LLC will start construction work on E. 1st Street. This work will provide a temporary fix to the section of the street that was damaged during the water main rupture.

The contractor will begin excavation work on October 2 with paving to follow the following day. During this time, the affected section of E. 1st Street will be closed to all traffic. We anticipate being able to reopen E. 1st Street once construction crews leave in the evening of October 3.

If you live in Trailblazer Court or next to the repair area, then you will not have vehicle access during the days of construction. You will need to park your vehicles outside of the construction area the night before the construction crew arrives.

The affected area will remain completely closed and inaccessible to vehicles during construction. Delivery trucks and other vehicles needing access beyond the eastern end (at the top of the hill) of the construction area will need to detour through Wetleau Drive. The sidewalks will remain open for residents to walk to and from their homes.

This is intended to be a temporary fix to prevent further street damage and to improve accessibility. The city anticipates undertaking a permanent fix to the street and underlying infrastructure sometime in 2025. Finally, to respond to complaints about excessive speed on E. 1st Street, the city’s contractor will be constructing speed humps on the lower and upper ends of the street construction.

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
